Pietro Riva, van origine een visser, richtte in 1842 de scheepswerf Riva op in Sarnico, aan het Iseomeer, in Italië. De scheepswerf legde zich bij oprichting toe op de reparatie van schepen en bouwde daarmee een goede reputatie op vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van afwerking. Pietro Riva, originally a fisherman, founded the Riva shipyard in Sarnico, on Lake Iseo, Italy, in 1842. The shipyard focused on ship repair when it was founded and built a good reputation for the high quality of its workmanship. Riva soon focused on the complete construction of boats.
